WE GOT THE OPPORTUNITY TO SIT DOWN WITH THIS NEW AND UPCOMING BAND, JETTY, WHO WERE RECENTLY IN OUR SHOP. THEY EVEN PARTICIPATED IN A LOVELY PHOTO SHOOT IN FRONT OF OUR MONSTROUS CYCLORAMA! (Click the image below or go here to see the photos) A LOT OF PEOPLE SAY YEUGENE MAY BE THE MOST PHOTOGENIC, BUT CHECK OUT DAVE’S HAIR. WHO WOULDN’T HAVE HAIR ENVY…MODEL STATUS!
So per usual, we asked how they became a band, what drew their particular crew together, and how they came up with the name Jetty. MIchael also know as "wiz'kid", makes it sound so organic and natural.
“A few of us had been working together on production for a couple other projects (Kid and the Wolf, a project fronted by Chris Morris of Morris and the East Coast, and the Drift Tape, a collaborative album between a lot of our very talented friends). We all knew that we had great chemistry together and shared a lot of the same ambitions and goals. We were all interested in exploring a sound that mixed R&B, soul, and funk with some new age production techniques”
As for the name Jetty, they “…wanted something succinct, something memorable, and something that could represent what we're all about. To us, Jetty called up memories of summertime, being amongst friends, a peaceful place to escape to.” Who does not love summertime and hanging out by the beach, the pier, or the jetty? Great thinking!
Jetty's sound is pretty unique. And it’s cool that they try to use each of their members different skill sets to influence and tie everything together. They even claim that without Yeugene, they weren’t able to reach every corner of sound like they wanted. Vocals can do wonders, from create a catchy chorus, to really allow a band to explore and emphasize different sounds to keep their fans happy and still keeping “their” sound. And they also have a very collaborative way to create their music. “Most of our songs are born out of a tiny little nugget of inspiration.”
Along with making some badass music, Jetty is all about fun and getting their fans involved. In the music scene, that’s a quality we find awe-inspiring. Without your fans, you really can’t get very far. And without your fans, where’s the fun?! Music is about connecting people, entertaining people, reaching people. And Jetty hit it home with their upcoming music video filming. They have an 80s and rollerskating themed music video filming coming up on March 29th. “…we just want it to be a celebration of our friends and our community. Our people have been incredibly supportive and showed so much love from Day 1. We want to hold up a mirror and give that love right back.” We also asked about their new single “Move” and it’s all about the party! “like the video concept itself, the song is a non-stop party banger. we want people to move!”
